Freelancer1 Dota 2, Guides

Dota 2 is a game that brings new scenarios to the players in every new game. With different picks, the game goes in a whole new direction. A player can be considered to be a good Dota 2 player if he knows how to behave under each situation. A carry for the team is usually responsible for winning the game as he gets the most farm throughout the game. Correct itemization in the game is one of the biggest aspects of carrying the game in a better way. For example, if your enemy team has multiple stuns and you miss making Black King Bar, you might face a lot of trouble in the team fights. In the following article, we will be learning some methods through which a player can learn the art of itemization on a carry in Dota 2.

Learning the Itemization

Itemization during the game is a skill that a player learns with time. However, there are several ways that could help a player in developing the trends a little early. Correct itemization on a carry during a match is one of the most important things to win. Here are some of the ways to learn the correct itemization on a carry.

  • Read the Guides

Dota 2 provides guides for each hero in the game. When you tap on a hero to get into the battle, you get a chance to turn on the guides for spells and itemization. We would never suggest blindly following the guides given by the game. However, analyze these guides as much as you can. Try to understand why the game is always suggesting particular items on a particular hero.

Other than the item selection, you must also learn why the guide is suggesting to get an item in the early phase of the game and why it is an item targeted for late-game only. Therefore, reading guides can really help you understand why a hero goes for some specific items. Additionally, you will learn the use of most of the items in the game.

  • Analyze the Enemy Team

During the Pick/Ban phase, try to analyze the enemy team as much as you can. If you are queuing for the Carry role, you might get the chance to pick a hero at the end. Analyzing the enemy team includes looking at their volume of stuns, the amount of damage, the resistance they hold, if a magical build would work or a physical is required.

Once you have analyzed the enemy picks, this is your time to think about your possible item-build in the game. Although things can go the other way and you might need to change your analyzed build, things mostly go smoothly and the build you think about in the beginning goes just fine.

  • Which items do you need?

Once you are done with the enemy team’s picks, it is your time to decide what will be your build in the game. If the enemy has too much lock-down or they have magical damage that can kill your hero in no time, you must go for a mid-game Black King Bar. If the enemy team has too much physical damage, then you might need a Butterfly or an Assault Cuirass before going for stats or damage-items.

If your team requires a better team fight and your hero has a Scepter ability that just fits there, go for it as it will help better in the game. Items totally depend on the situation that currently goes into the game. As you play more games, you keep on learning this skill.

  • Analyze the Laning phase

Once you cross the 10-minute mark in the laning phase, analyze your items and try to comprehend if you are going fine or you are falling behind. If you feel like your farm is not enough and might not be able to complete major items in a short time, go for the cheaper items that provide you stats at a low price. These items include Hand of Midas, Desolator, Echo Sabre, Shadow Blade, and Crystalys.

With these items, you can at least stand in the team fights and deliver something. If these items work, you can then go for your complete items and sell these later in the game.

  • Look at your Mid-Game

When you reach the mid-game of a match, analyze and check the former strategy that you made and decided to go for the specific items. If that build is helping you, go on with it. These might include a player buying a Butterfly or making a Black King Bar. Ask yourself if these items are helping you in the game or not. If the answer you receive is yes, then your strategy was correct and you are now learning the correct itemization. However, if you receive a no, then you might think about purchasing something else.

  • Compare the End-Game items

As the game ends, look at your items and the time you bought them. Now think about these items and if they helped you at that time or not. If they did, then you selected all the right items at the right time. However, if an item seems pretty unused during the game, then it means you went for the wrong build.

Conclusion

Learning the correct itemization in Dota 2 is an art. If you are queuing for a Carry role, the game will pretty much fall on your shoulders. If you are good at selecting the situational items, then there is no need to worry about it. However, if you are not, then we have mentioned some of the ways about how to learn this technique. In most cases, every player adopts the correct itemization with the passage of time. However, learning this skill independently may provide you an upper hand in your ranked matches.
