4 Things You Need To Reach 4000 MMR on DOTA 2

Jonas Dota 2, Guides

Getting to 4000 MMR puts you in the top 15% of DOTA 2 players in the world. It’s a solid milestone to aim for as it essentially means you’re a ‘good’ player.

Going from being a beginner or a struggling player to hitting 4000 MMR is not easy, but here’s a look at four tips that will put you on the right track towards becoming an ancient.

Good Decision Making

DOTA 2, to a large extent, is centered around decision making.

Players that are able to consistently make smart decisions in a match, often come out victorious due to the game’s tactical nature.

A lot of things influence a player’s ability to make smart decisions, but the most important factors are real-time analysis and a deep understanding of your hero’s strengths and weaknesses.

You need to constantly analyze your match in real-time – ask yourself “What is the enemy’s end goal for doing X”, “If I do Y, can I get an advantage over the enemy heroes?”.

Also, having a clear picture of your hero’s strengths and weaknesses will help you avoid situations that you can’t handle, that way, you can focus on what your hero is good at and help your team to the best of your abilities.

Replay Analysis

Studying replays of your matches will give you a keen insight into the mistakes you made.

Perhaps you jumped into an unfavorable fight, or your team pushed too early or too late – studying replays will help you understand the mistakes you made at certain points in a match, which in turn, will help you avoid those mistakes in the future.

In terms of replay analysis, you should watch not just your own replays, but the replays of highly skilled players as well.

You’ll be able to pick up some new tricks and tactics just from watching high MMR players – helping you on your journey towards 4000 MMR.

THE BEST WAY TO INCREASE MMR
GET STARTED

Farm With Intent

Farming is a crucial part of the game, but you need to farm with intent, instead of farming passively like most players with low MMR tend to do.

Farming in your jungle where your hero is more or less safe is not a particularly bad strategy, but you can’t rely on it as your main farming strategy.

You’re better off farming the creep wave in a bid to make your way into your enemy’s territory and possibly into their tower.

This gives you a better chance of taking control of a game while stacking gold and XP.

Press Your Advantages

Making the most of your advantages can be the difference between a win or a loss on DOTA 2.

Far too many players pull off incredible plays and dominate lanes only to sit back and play passively right after.

After you gain a big advantage in a match you need to capitalize on it and apply more pressure on your opponents – don’t give them space to farm or regroup or else you risk losing your advantage.

Most games genuinely don’t need to be as long as 50 minutes, you can literally secure victory in games in 30 minutes or even less if you make the most of your advantages – Don’t relent.
