Coach Jamboo: How Percentage FIFA Can Help You Win More Games
FIFA is full of a lot of random elements. From the way the ball bounces after a tackle to the way your players trip over each other during an attacking sequence.
The random elements in FIFA have the potential of messing with your play, to the point where they can literally determine whether you win or lose.
But even amid these random events, there’s a way to give yourself a definite chance of victory, and it’s called playing “Percentage FIFA”.
Percentage FIFA is a term coined by pro FIFA player Jamie “Jamboo” Rigden.
It involves giving yourself the best chance to make the most of certain in-game situations.
A perfect example of “playing percentage FIFA” would be taking an extra touch to create ample space when faced with a goalscoring opportunity instead of taking a first-time shot the moment the ball falls into your path.
In that situation, taking a first-time shot leaves room for randomness, in the sense that your player could strike the ball with his weaker foot which would ultimately translate into reduced accuracy.
If you take the option of a first-time shot, your player could also strike the ball from an awkward stance which would inadvertently translate into reduced accuracy.
There’s also the chance that, in the heat of the moment, you could put too much power on the shot which would cause the ball to either go over the bar or go wide.
To put things simply, taking a first-time shot in that situation would give you a relatively low percentage of converting that opportunity to a goal.
On the other hand, “playing percentage FIFA” or taking an extra touch to create space will give you a greater chance of scoring a goal in that context.
It’s because taking an extra touch will give you an opportunity to be more deliberate with your shot.
By taking an extra touch, you’ll be able to lace the ball to the direction you’d like it to go through, which eliminates any chance of randomness the game would otherwise want to throw at you.
The whole point of “playing percentage FIFA” is to eliminate randomness in certain in-game situations in a bid to improve your odds of winning a game.
This could mean taking an extra touch when faced with a goalscoring opportunity like we mentioned before in order to boost your chances of playing the ball into the back of the net, or even just taking time with your passes in order to give yourself the best chance of retaining your passes.
The most important part of “playing percentage FIFA” involves being more deliberate with your actions on the virtual pitch in order to prevent instances of randomness in your play.
Pro FIFA players instinctively play “percentage FIFA.
If you watch guys like Fnatic Tekkz or FUTWIZ Lyricz you’ll notice that they almost always look for the best possible chance to score a goal.
They would much rather find his way into their opponent’s 18-yard-area than attempt a long range shot.
They would much rather jockey and time a tackle than to rush for the ball indiscriminately.
Playing Percentage FIFA is an essential part of raising your skill level and winning more games, so if you’d like to get more wins in the Weekend League and Division Rivals, we recommend you start playing percentage FIFA.
