10 Tips to win more Weekend League Games
The Weekend League is the most prestigious competition in FIFA 21. If you achieve a good Weekend League result, you can make a name for yourself in the FIFA scene and qualify for further Pro tournaments. But we all know it: the Weekend League can be draining, grueling and frustrating if you keep losing. The opponent has a better team and wins the game exactly because they have all the luck in the world. That’s the oldest FIFA excuse there is. In this guide, we have 10 tips for you that will help you win more Weekend League games.
Tip 1: Weekend planning
To be successful in the Weekend League, you need to plan your weekend well. Don’t start gaming right after school or after work, get some rest beforehand. Also, plan meetings with friends or family, so that your thoughts do not only revolve around the game, but you can completely focus at the right moment. Ideally, you should also arrange to go to the gym – fresh air and exercise promote concentration and stamina.
Tip 2: The right formation
With the right formation, you can achieve a lot. Always pay attention to which formation is being used by your opponent. Some formations outplay each other, others are hard to defend. In FIFA 21, the 5-player chain has become the meta. In the 5-2-1-2 or 5-3-2 system, quite a few Weekend League games have been won. Of course, this only happens with the right instructions. The wingbacks should also attack, so remember to set that beforehand in the instructions. To counter the 5-man chain, you can play either the 3-5-2 or 4-3-3 system. If you want to have a rock-solid formation, you can get it with both 4-2-3-1 variants, or with a classic 4-2-2. Don’t be afraid to adjust the formation several times in a game. Depending on the state of the game, you want to act more offensively or defensively.
Tip 3: Time management
You should never do all 30 games in one day, but split the games over all days. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, you can play ten games each. This way, you will stay fresh and persistent.
Tip 4: Warm up
You should not start up the console and then directly begin with the Weekend League. Instead, play one or two Division Rivals games to warm up and get used to the game and its procedures. After that, you can really take off.
Tip 5: Control frustration
There are no two opinions on this subject: no game in the world has as much frustration potential as FIFA. You have to learn to control your frustration in the Weekend League. There are several ways to do that. One way, for example, is a stress ball that you can knead in heated moments. The accumulated frustration must be released – and ideally, neither you, nor any objects or other people should be harmed in the process. You conceded a goal? No problem, just give the softball a good squeeze and move on!
Tip 6: Plan enough breaks
Take a short break after each game to forget the emotions from the previous one. If you’ve won before, you may be over-motivated or go into the next game with the wrong expectations, because the opponent is completely different. If you lost before, then go get some fresh air and go into the next match rested.
Tip 7: Never give up
No game has as much comeback potential as FIFA. In jargon, this is also called momentum. So never leave a game early, even if you seem to be hopelessly outclassed. On one hand, you can study the moves of your opponent and use them for yourself, on the other, you don’t lose coins and points in the WL ranking.
Tip 8: The right team
We all agree that the team is the biggest part of success. Even a talented gambler often has no chance against a beginner playing with a pay-to-win team. Still, we encourage you not to invest in FIFA Points, but to build the right team. You can acquire coins through trading or SBCs. Of course, this is time consuming, but if you play Weekend League, you should be aware of this. The team should not consist of your favorite players, but only of meta cards. We will talk about the meta in more detail later in this article. We also recommend to form your team not only from one league, but to build a hybrid team, in order to get the most out of the individual positions.
Tip 9: Play dirty
If you play a 5-man chain, you will make yourself unpopular with your opponents. But you don’t have to care about that, because you want to win. So, use everything the game provides you with – be it certain players, formations, skills, time play – simply everything that is overpowered.

Tip 10: FIFA-Meta
Last but not least, let’s take a look at the current FIFA 21 meta. As we just mentioned, the 5-man chain is one of the best formations in the game. The most important thing, however, is the speed. Without fast players, nothing works in FIFA 21. In the best case every, yes, every field player should have over 90 speed. Any exceptions will be punished directly by the opponents. If you don’t have any central defenders with more than 90 speed, you have to replace them with outfield defenders. But don’t worry, FIFA is not a simulation, it is an arcade, so Alphonso Davies wins every header duel against Cristiano Ronaldo. The more experienced player shouldn’t skimp on skill moves either, especially the broken La Croqueta or Berbatov spin are overpowered.
So those are ten tips that I hope you can apply to become a better Weekend League player. And even if you don’t get the 30 wins right away, there’s bound to be a learning curve involved.
